My boyfriend and I have stayed at Colonial Gables twice now. He travels for work and Colonial Gables in a close distance to the Port in Searsport.
One time we stayed in the motel part and once in a cottage. Both locations were great. Check in was easy and friendly. We truly felt that our business was appreciated and valued. Both cottage and regular room were very clean. The views were absolutely spectacular. I loved that I was able to bring our dog and there was lots of places to walk her, she loved it too!
I truly can’t say enough great things about Colonial Gables. I was also shocked by the price(in a good way), being from another tourist Maine town I know how steep prices can get for hotels, motels, cottages etc. I felt the price was VERY fair for what we got. We will be returning next year to Colonial Gables and look forward to staying there and seeing our favorite employee, Skipper. Thank you Colonial Gables for the consistent 5/5 experience.

Lovely little oceanfront cottages; clean, cozy and so very comfortable. Beautifully renovated, super clean and with a kitchen well supplied with everything needed to cook our meals. It is wonderful to be able to walk around the grounds and along the beach…having fun finding sea glass and enjoying the expansive ocean view. We enjoyed sitting on the deck for our morning coffee and watching the sun rise. Location is great being close to shopping and as home base for day trips exploring the Maine seacoast.

A Mom and Pop motel and cottages with gorgeous views of the ocean with their own frontage for you to explore on low tide.
We stayed in a cottage which was cute as a button and it had a ton of space for my husband and I. It had a living room with two chairs and a couch and a small dining table and chairs. A kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals. A small porch and chairs where you can sit outside and look at the ocean. The bath was roomy and had a shower and tub.
The cottages are laid out so while each cottage is somewhat close, you’re very private. So if you’re sitting out on your porch, you can’t see your neighbor doing the same and flowering hedge has been planted for privacy near the windows.
Everything was clean up and updated. The grounds were spotless also. Not only would I stay here again, I can easily see staying here a few days or even a week. It’s very peaceful but it would make for a great place to use as a base to explore the surrounding areas as it’s close to Mt. Desert Island.

Room Tip: Splurge for a cottage! (Although the motel has private patios also)
With a view of and access to the bay from every cottage, how can you go wrong? The cottages are clean, cozy, and quaint. We stayed in #6, it had a sun room, deck, roomy bathroom, full kitchen, and lovely bedroom with two queen beds. The beds were comfortable. I loved that it was a dog-friendly, so I could bring my furry family member along. Not to mention the friendly people!
My grandparents have been staying here for many years and I can see why!

While this motel has the look of an older motel, it has been totally renovated…totally. In addition to the rooms being gorgeous, the towels were beefy and they supply real Kleenex brand tissues! And did I mention the huge flat panel TV? This is a gem.

My family comes here every year and we always have a great overnight stay! Our cabin has varied from huge to tiny. This year’s cabin was tiny and we loved it – right down by the water and it had a super quiet inverter air conditioner. We cooked our dinner, went for a walk and even sat by the fire chatting and laughing with people we met there. So cool. It seems that it is under new ownership and has gotten so much friendlier and the improvements are quite fantastic – take a look at the incredible solar array on the roof of the hotel building facing the shore! We’ll keep coming back!

We stay at Colonial Gables every time we come to Maine. The view is beautiful and the cottages are clean, comfortable and provide a kitchen/kitchenette for cooking. I love to sit on the deck of my private cottage, chat, sip a beverage and watch the sunset. This stay we were blessed with a full arc rainbow with a portion of a double, as if to embrace the ocean view! The prices continue to be reasonable for average travelers, and I think that must represent the owners’ philosophy and/or mission. This family-run business certainly reflects the warm and friendly nature of its owners. I highly recommend Colonial Gables for couples of all ages, as well as families of all sizes.

We found Colonial Gables a few years ago and now any trip to the Maine coast is not complete without a stay here. We usually travel in the fall and are always happy at Colonial Gables. The owner & staff are warm & inviting, the rooms are extremely clean and comfortable, and the ocean view from our private deck is beautiful. The grounds are well kept and I love to walk among the cottages around the property and down to the water. At low tide, we are able to walk quite a distance along the shore experiencing the natural beauty of the ocean. The town of Belfast is close by with many shops and restaurants. Belfast is also a great location for day trips along the coast both to the North & South.

We’ve been staying in various hotels for a week now the cottage on the bay was my favorite. I would recommend the colonial Gables to anyone seeking a unique experience. Peaceful, wonderful staff and beautiful beach. The cottage we stayed in was right on the beach we were able to walk around and do a little bit of beachcombing. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I did have to do some work while we were here and was happy that the internet was available with a strong signal. Great time highly recommend!
